Chapter 6 — Recreating the Impact Momentum
Jordan let go of the door and watched it swing freely toward the furniture.
The heavy wooden panel moved with surprising momentum.
It struck the table edge with a sharp, crisp thud.
The vibration from the impact traveled straight through the polished wood.
A small paperback book resting on the opposite end of the table jolted instantly.
The sudden jolt sent the paperback sliding off the exact same table edge.
It hit the carpet with a soft thud near the broken glass.
Samantha watched the demonstration from the couch.
She kept her knees pulled tight against her chest.
She was still visibly shaken by the ordeal.
Her eyes followed every movement Jordan made.
Vincent stood beside the table with his hands buried deep in his pockets.
He stared at the spot where the book had just landed.
The physical force of the swinging door was undeniable now.
It did not take a human hand to create kinetic energy.
A simple draft from the hallway was more than enough to push the heavy panel into motion.
Jordan picked up the paperback book from the carpet.
He placed it back on the side table.
Then he reached down and scooped up a small log book that had slipped beneath the table runner during the commotion.
It was an old household maintenance ledger that recorded daily airflow checks and window positions.
Jordan opened the worn leather cover to the page dated earlier that afternoon.
An entry made at two o’clock noted that the basement ventilation fan had been switched to high exhaust mode.
