Chapter 4 — David turning away from Maya — Then stepping over to the equipment rack monitoring console
David hardened his expression.
He ignored Maya’s further attempts to explain the shift instructions.
He turned away from her completely.
His boots clicked sharply against the concrete floor as he walked across the backstage area.
He headed straight toward the tall equipment rack standing near the rear fire exit.
Cables looped in messy bundles along the side of the metal frame.
Dust motes swirled in the blue light cast by the ventilation fans.
David reached the physical monitoring console built into the center of the rack.
The small CRT screen displayed a steady green power indicator.
A row of analog buttons and sliding toggle switches sat below the monitor housing.
David leaned in close to inspect the interface.
He wiped a thin layer of dust off the plastic label above the primary input port.
The console screen flickers to life as David inputs the master override password.
