Chapter 5 — Buster the Golden Retriever is Caught Red-Handed
Andrew stayed completely still on the kitchen floor.
The golden retriever slowly stepped out from its hiding spot behind the pantry nook.
It was Buster.
The large golden dog blinked lazily at the kitchen lights.
He looked entirely unremorseful.
A thick layer of white frosting coated his muzzle.
Bright red berry filling was smeared across his lower jaw.
A few stray cake crumbs clung stubbornly to his golden whiskers.
Andrew looked closely at the dog’s face.
It was undeniable proof of the stolen dessert.
Buster let out a low, happy whine and gave his tail a single lazy wag against the cabinet.
He licked his sticky nose with a long pink tongue.
Andrew stared at the mess on the dog’s face.
The mystery of the ruined cake was completely solved.
Andrew slowly stood up from the dark wooden floor.
He wiped his hands on his jeans.
He turned his head toward the living room archway where Rebecca was still standing.
Andrew called Rebecca over to look around the corner at what he had just found.
