Oliver accuses his daughter of ruining a delivered package — Then the security camera app reveals what actually happened during the storm

Chapter 1 — Oliver confronts Chloe over the ruined box on the porch

Oliver stood on the front porch with a dark scowl.

He jabbed his finger directly at the damp cardboard box sitting on the wooden deck.

Beside him, Chloe sobbed uncontrollably.

Her face was red and tear-streaked as she pointed desperately at the ruined delivery.

“I never touched it!” Chloe cried out in anguish.

Her voice cracked under the intense pressure of his glare.

“Look at this mess,” Oliver snapped, his voice sharp and loud against the pattering rain.

“The top is ripped open and everything inside is soaked through. You were the only one home all afternoon.”

“I swear I didn’t go near the front door!” Chloe pleaded, wiping her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater.

“Don’t lie to me,” Oliver said, taking a step closer.

“I saw muddy footprints right here near the porch steps.”

“I was in my room the entire time!” Chloe sobbed louder.

“Why won’t you believe me?”

Samantha stepped out onto the porch from the warmth of the living room.

She looked between her angry husband and their devastated daughter with deep concern.

“Keep your voice down, Oliver,” Samantha said firmly.

“Let’s figure out what actually happened before you start making accusations.”

“The evidence is right here in front of us,” Oliver argued, refusing to back down.

“An expensive delivery ruined, and the box has clearly been tampered with.”

Samantha pulled out her smartphone from the pocket of her cardigan.

She quickly unlocked the screen and tapped on the home security application.

“We don’t have to guess,” Samantha said, tapping the display.

“The porch camera records everything automatically.”

She swiped through the afternoon logs to find the exact timestamp of the delivery.

Samantha pressed play and held the screen out toward them so they could both see the footage.

The video displayed the front porch in crisp high definition.

It showed the delivery driver placing the cardboard box neatly on the mat just an hour earlier.

Footprints were visible on the lower step, but they belonged to the delivery worker in his uniform boots.

As the playback rolled forward, heavy wind and driving rain began to lash across the porch.

The wind caught the unsecured cardboard flaps, bending them completely backward.

Sheets of rain poured directly into the open interior of the box.

Oliver stared down at the phone screen in absolute silence.

His jaw went slack as the visual proof played right in front of him.

Not a single human being had touched the package since it was dropped off.

Oliver slowly raised his eyes from the screen to look at Chloe.

The harsh anger in his face instantly dissolved into deep, aching regret.

“Chloe, I…” Oliver started, his voice suddenly hollow.

Samantha tapped the settings menu on her phone and paused the playback on a specific frame.

She frowned slightly as she squinted at a detail in the background of the video feed.

“Wait a second,” Samantha murmured, tapping the screen again to zoom in on the corner of the porch.

“Look at this timestamp right here before the rain even started.”
