Chapter 10 — A Conversation with David
Later that afternoon, David arrived for pickup.
He drove a silver sedan with a soccer ball rolling around the trunk.
Marcus was already waiting by the curb to brief him on the hallway conversation.
David listened quietly, leaning against the passenger side door.
“She didn’t understand the chart?” David asked.
“She was worried he was caught in the middle,” Marcus said.
“She thought he had to choose.”
David looked toward the school entrance where Claire was helping students board the buses.
