Chapter 6 — Leo Walks Down the Hallway
Footsteps echoed against the polished linoleum floor.
Leo walked down the hallway holding his heavy blue backpack.
He stopped when he saw Claire and Marcus standing near the classroom door.
His small fingers gripped the nylon shoulder straps tightly.
His eyes darted between the teacher’s worried face and Marcus’s firm stance.
“Did I do the project wrong, Ms. Claire?” Leo asked.
His voice was barely above a whisper.
He looked ready to fold the poster board in half and hide it.
