Chapter 11 — Bridging the Gap
David walked across the pavement toward the teacher.
Claire turned, recognizing him from the autumn assembly.
“Ms. Claire,” David said calmly.
“I hear our family tree caused a bit of a stir today.”
Claire crossed her arms before letting them fall to her sides.
“It’s just unprecedented in our grade-level database,” she admitted.
“We want Leo to feel safe, not singled out.”
“He feels safer than anyone I know,” David replied.
“Because he doesn’t have to hide half of his life from his teachers.”
