Chapter 10 — Clearing Out the Guest Room
The work on the guest room began immediately.
Sarah grabbed several empty cardboard boxes from the garage.
Marcus hauled out the old plastic storage bins.
Maya helped wipe down the windowsills with a damp cloth.
Working side by side, the tension in the house began to shift.
Marcus carried out the heavy boxes of old tax forms.
“I’m sorry, Sarah,” Marcus said quietly as he passed her in the doorway.
“I know you’re trying to build trust in this house.
I broke that trust over a phone call.”
Sarah wiped dust off her hands.
“Just don’t ever keep something like this from me again.
We face things together.”
“I promise,” Marcus said.
