Chapter 9 — A Family Meeting
Sarah called Maya into the living room.
They sat together on the sofa.
Marcus stood near the coffee table.
“Your aunt Elena is coming back to stay with us for a little while,” Sarah explained calmly to her daughter.
Maya looked surprised.
“Is she going to stay in the guest room?”
“We have to get the room ready first,” Sarah said.
She looked directly at Marcus.
“Together. As a family.
Not with secrets.”
Marcus nodded slowly.
“You’re right, Sarah.
I should have told you straight from the beginning.
I was afraid of your reaction, but I made it worse by hiding it.”
