Chapter 5 — Looking at the Letter
Sarah demanded to see whatever else had come in the mail.
Marcus pointed to the side table near the front door.
An unopened envelope sat beneath a stack of grocery flyers.
Sarah walked back out to the entryway.
Picking up the envelope, she checked the return address.
It was postmarked from O’Hare International Airport.
She slid her thumb under the paper flap and pulled the letter out.
A single handwritten note was inside.
It was written in familiar cursive.
“Marcus, I am landing on Friday afternoon,” Sarah read aloud.
“I found the spare key you gave me years ago.
I hope I can stay in the guest room for a few weeks.”
Sarah looked at the date on the top of the paper.
It was dated three days ago.
