Chapter 12 — Facing the Return
Elena looked tired.
Dark circles sat beneath her eyes.
She looked at Sarah and then at Marcus.
“Hey,” Elena said softly.
“I know I shouldn’t have just shown up like this.”
Sarah looked at the brass key still sitting on the entryway table behind her.
Then she looked back at her sister-in-law.
“You should have called weeks ago instead of hiding out in Chicago,” Sarah said.
“But you’re here now.
Come inside.”
Elena let out a long breath she seemed to have been holding for miles.
“Thank you, Sarah.
Marcus, thank you.”
She stepped across the threshold into the hallway.
